FACTOID: Etymology: Flimby's name was recorded as Flinbi in 1056 and Flemyngeby in the 12th century, and seems to come from Old Norse Flæminga bý, meaning "the village of the Flemings".

More than just a fishy experience! As well as the Aquarium itself, there is crazy golf, a café, Wild Solway exhibition, an Adventure Park and gift ship. The Aquarium is one of the best places to see some of the varied marine life of the Irish Sea. They don’t keep any mammals like seals or otters, but have a huge variety of fish and invertebrates (starfish, lobsters, etc) in 50 carefully themed and informative displays. Your admission ticket allows you to re-enter the display area all day so you can enjoy seeing the fish being fed and listen to talks by the friendly staff. There are regular fish feeding demonstrations every day, at 12.00, 2.00, 3.00 and 4.00 o’clock, with extra events during school holidays.

Discover the rich history of Maryport, the town, her people, and proud maritime heritage. Maryport Maritime Museum is ideally situated at the quayside in the beautiful and historic town of Maryport. The museum occupies the building formally known as The Queen’s Head public house which entertained and boarded a great many sailors between their voyages on the high seas. It is one of the oldest buildings in the town and was built on land owned by Humphrey Senhouse II who developed the town and harbour.

This popular attraction has something for everyone. The Children’s Farm Park has 10 acres and 16 paddocks of friendly farm animals all waiting for your attention. Unique to The Gincase is the huge Walk Through Parrot Aviary with dozens on colourful birds flying around you, the parrots are feed every afternoon, and the best thing is… you can help!! Many colourful birds will come down and feed off your hands. It is fun for both children and adults alike. Come and try it! There is an outdoor play area, with an adjoining a pedal go-cart circuit to lose some more energy, and a large indoor Playbarn with more animals, and the enormous ‘Blacksmiths Shop’ playhouse, many pedal toys and a two sandpits for the poorer weather. The Gincase serves delicious freshly home made food, that is all made in The Gincase kitchen, with a 1760 cast iron cooking range and many other interesting items found on farms in times past dotted around the tearoom. Morning coffees, hot and cold lunches and afternoon teas are all here waiting to be enjoyed. The Cumbrian Craftbarn and Giftshop are a shoppers delight and you can spend a lovely time browsing through all the crafts and gifts.

Visit poet William’s childhood home and meet some of the Wordsworth household. Find out what life was like for the family and their servants, the maid-of-all-work, the manservant, the nursemaid and the clerk. Hear about the Cumbrian market town in the 1770s. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the working 18th-century kitchen and discover how they cooked their home-grown produce. Listen to the harpsichord, play with the children’s toys, dress up in replica costume and admire our Scots Dumpy chickens.
